The Plateauer has stagnated and risks losing market share if they don’t evolve with their industry, but they might not know what they should be heading toward, and they might lack a clear motivation to get there. S.M.A.R.T. goals are the best known cure for these symptoms. Ideally, the Plateauer attends MBU or at least takes a session on MBU Online, then is prompted to create S.M.A.R.T. goals around the content. They can create the goals themselves, and state how they will measure them and what they will do if they don’t achieve them. Then, in a few months, MBU staff or automated software can follow-up by sending back these written commitments to check in on progress.

It’s easy to get motivated immediately following a meaningful educational experience, but it can be difficult to carry that enthusiasm forward. However, people innately feel a need to be consistent and to keep their promises, so if we can have our Plateauer’s promise themselves that they’ll hit their S.M.A.R.T. goals and follow up to ensure it has happened or to remind them that it should be happening, then we serve as the coach who shares the journey. In addition, I would have the subscribers write up how useful MINDBODY University has been to them while they're still hot from the experience, then have them build into these S.M.A.R.T. goals a plan that will allow the subscriber to earn enough additional income and free time to attend MINDBODY University again (or for the first time) at a designated point in the future.
